The seventh International Lighthouse Weekend intends to raise the profile of lighthouses, lightvessels and other navigational aids, promoting our maritime heritage.

Many lighthouses and places of associated interest will be open to the public, and there will be special events at lighthouses and lightvessels both at home and abroad.

There will be radio and press publicity before the event. Trusts and Friends groups will be able to use this day to raise awareness of their work and involvement in the preservation of the history of lightkeeping.

Also on this weekend, amateur radio operators around the world will be transmitting from lighthouses with the objective of fostering international relations. Over 350 lights in 50 countries will be on the air. See www.illw.net/2008_list.htm for the latest list of participants.

If you would like to be involved, please let us know, so we can publicise your event.

Participating Lighthouses

Please note that opening times vary from lighthouse to lighthouse, and some may not be open all of the time, and that height, age or access restrictions may also be in place, so you are strongly advised to check with the relevant visitor centre in advance to confirm details.
