Members of the ALK are invited to attend the preview: You are cordially invited to attend the preview of “In Light and Shadow We Rotate”, a new site-specific multi-media installation by artist Abby Sohn on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 8:00pm-9: 30 pm. The Nash Point Lighthouse will sound their diaphone foghorn promptly at 8pm to open the event. Lighthouses can be considered as portals between space and time. Abby continues to apply her methods of employing aspects of communication systems in innovative ways by extending the function of tools used in maritime navigation in relation to specific sites along the South Wales Coast. “In Light and Shadow We Rotate” explores relationships between sites and histories through ritual. Research into the sites of Nash Point and Caldey Island Lighthouses has not only revealed navigational connections but has also uncovered spiritual relationships. The new work integrates sounds, photographs, and film to relay a rhythmic interplay between the two lighthouses and their surrounding locations providing the audience with a separate space for reflection at the Nash Point Lighthouse. |
